“Riddle Me Right” by Whistlinghost
Age-old sirens in our souls
singing, “won’t you rescue me?”
sell me the sound
dancing through your evening gown
this chalice of chance:
passed to you; siphoned through our fair-weather romance
hushed, i’ll pace myself
it’s only
it’s every time
gently off the incline
weak-kneed on deceiving seas
you’re steady as i atrophy
baby, if i’m found in waning mind
moon has found his sunshine bride
down to the door
season sings a metaphor
in her arms of brief respite
you riddle me right.

“Breathe Easy” by Mree
Summer
Come around
Lift me off my feet
Winter
Turn away
Melt away from me
Sorrow
Follows me
Wants to bring be down
Heartache
Breaking me
Force me to the ground
We’re not falling down
We are stronger now
Dreaming out loud
Breathe easy now
If you ask me, this is the single greatest song by Sufjan Stevens, as well as one of the best songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. It seriously kills me every time I hear it because there is no studio recording of it. I can only keep hoping and praying that he will record a studio version, but this decent quality live version will have to do for now…
“Don’t Stop. Don’t Break. You can delight because you have a place.”
